    Waste of money

From check-in to check out a disaster. Keys didn't work, internet didn't work, got accused of lying in the parking garage because chcekin forgot to note the car, the lights under the bed turn on and off everytime we moved, AC went out both nights, minibar wasn't stocked on arrival, and every restaurant other than Azul was terrible - but since they responded to my issues management felt that I should be thankful. NEVER AGAIN

Beautiful Property, Disappointing Service and Even More Disappointing Accountability

⭐️⭐️ 2 STARS **Beautiful Property, Disappointing Service and Even More Disappointing Accountability** Listen I am a travel agent...DO NOT SEND YOUR CLIENTS HERE! ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE USED TO LUXURY TRAVELING I stayed at Sonesta Ocean Point in Sint Maarten with a group of 10 for a birthday celebration, and unfortunately, the experience did not live up to what we expected from a luxury, adults-only, all-inclusive resort, particularly one where we paid for Butler Service. Let me start by saying the property itself is beautiful. There are gorgeous views, multiple pools, some good dining options, and we did encounter employees who were kind and helpful. Yannick, in particular, provided some of the best daytime service we experienced. Unfortunately, a few positive interactions could not overcome the repeated service issues we experienced throughout the stay. The problems started almost immediately. ***BUTLER SERVICE This trip was planned months in advance. We had communicated our preferences before arrival, yet our requested beverages were not in the room when we arrived. We then had to spend time contacting management to get basic arrangements corrected. After management intervened, Yannick provided much better daytime service. However, nighttime Butler Service was essentially nonexistent from our experience. We rarely saw the evening butlers, and there was little to no proactive service or check-in during the evening. If I am paying for Butler Service, I expect the service to actually be available and attentive throughout the stay. *** POOL FOOD SERVICE This was another particularly frustrating situation. I was the guest receiving Butler Service, and I personally placed an order for food for myself and my husband. I clearly explained who the food was for. The butler decided that our order was "too much" and required us to change what we requested. I have traveled extensively and have never experienced being told that my food order was too large at an all-inclusive resort. If I want to order one item or several items from an all-inclusive restaurant, that should be my choice. We were not asking the butler to feed our entire group. I was ordering for myself and my husband, and I had already explained that. Because the order was restricted, we ultimately had to leave the pool and walk to another restaurant to get additional food. That completely defeats the purpose of paying for Butler Service. *** BIRTHDAY DINNER We traveled as a group specifically to celebrate multiple birthdays. Despite months of planning, our group was separated at Portofino without anyone first asking how we wanted to be seated. The birthday recognition was also extremely underwhelming. Our group essentially had to create the birthday moment ourselves. What made this more disappointing was seeing other guests receive much more enthusiastic birthday recognition nearby. For a resort hosting guests who are specifically traveling to celebrate special occasions, this should have been handled much better. *** FRANK AT THE FRONT BAR This was one of the most frustrating interactions of the entire trip. My husband specifically requested Courvoisier from Frank at the downstairs bar. Frank told him he was going to give him Martell instead. My husband again requested Courvoisier. There was a bottle of Courvoisier visibly available at the bar, yet Frank poured Martell anyway. When I questioned what happened, Frank claimed my husband had requested Martell. That is not what happened. There was no misunderstanding. We were there. My husband was there. Other members of our group were there. Frank knew what was requested. What made the interaction worse was his demeanor. He laughed and behaved as though disregarding the request was a joke. We had already raised concerns about Frank's treatment of our group, yet the behavior continued. What is particularly concerning is that the resort's written response later characterized this incident as a "misunderstanding" and stated that a manager named Carol was present and observed the interaction. That does not match what we personally witnessed. There were no supervisors standing at that bar during this interaction. It was Frank, members of my group, and two other guests. That raises a much bigger concern for me: **if management is going to investigate a complaint, the resulting response needs to accurately reflect what actually happened.** *** LAUNDRY INCIDENT Another member of our group, Joshua, specifically asked whether his clothing could be dry cleaned. He was told the request could be accommodated. Instead, his clothing was apparently washed, several items were damaged or shrank, and the clothing was returned wrinkled in a plastic bag. No one proactively contacted him to explain what had happened or provide a meaningful resolution. The resort later focused on the fact that there was no internal complaint record. A missing internal log does not mean the incident did not happen. If an employee fails to document a guest complaint properly, that should not become the guest's responsibility. *** THE BIGGER PROBLEM: ACCOUNTABILITY What ultimately made this experience worse was the response we received after the stay. I submitted a detailed formal complaint because I wanted management to understand what happened and explain how these issues would be addressed. Instead, many of the problems were reframed as misunderstandings, policies, or goodwill gestures. For example, the resort referenced placing decorations in my daughter's room as a complimentary gesture. We provided the decorations. The resort simply placed them in the room. The resort also referenced giving us a noon checkout as though this was a significant service recovery. We did not even remain in the room until noon, and the guest who was actually sick was not the person receiving that accommodation. I appreciate employees who tried to help us. I appreciate Yannick's service. I appreciate the beautiful property. But I also believe guests deserve honesty and accountability when they report legitimate problems. *** WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS RESORT? At this point, **no.** I cannot recommend a resort based solely on beautiful rooms, pools, and views when the service is inconsistent and guests have to repeatedly escalate basic issues to management. More importantly, I cannot comfortably recommend a property when the response to a formal complaint appears to minimize the guest's firsthand experience rather than genuinely acknowledge what went wrong. We invested significant money, time, and planning into this birthday vacation. Ten people traveled together expecting to celebrate, relax, and enjoy an all-inclusive luxury experience. Instead, I spent far too much of my vacation managing service issues and seeking out management. That is not what anyone should have to do on vacation. **Some Good employees, absolutely, and Yannick and Ms Sheryl at the pool bar deserves recognition. ** Consistent luxury-level service and accountability? Unfortunately, that was not our experience.** I am sharing this review so future travelers can make an informed decision and so management understands that the issue is not simply one bad interaction. It was the accumulation of multiple service failures, followed by a response that did not make me feel heard or that the resort had truly taken responsibility. Based on our experience, I would not return and I would not recommend Sonesta Ocean Point to my travel clients or audience at this time.

    Good location, bad everything else

⭐ 1 STAR – VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE I recently stayed at the Sonesta resort in Sint Maarten beginning August 21, 2026, for the destination wedding of two good friends. I was also a groomsman in the wedding. Unfortunately, my experience was so disappointing that I would have a very difficult time recommending this resort to anyone. I want to give credit where it is due: Pearla at the front desk was wonderful. She was friendly, helpful, and professional when I checked in. Unfortunately, after that, the experience went downhill quickly. When I entered my room, the bed appeared to have already been slept in. I called the front desk and requested fresh sheets. I was told the staff was busy and that it would take a while. Nobody ever came to change the sheets. The room itself was unacceptable. The shower flooded so badly that water reached the hallway. There was visible mold and mildew around the bathroom, and there appeared to be mold around the bottom of the mattress. The balcony was covered in bird droppings, there were bugs in the room, and the rooftop lounge had large water bugs. For a resort, particularly one hosting destination weddings, this is simply not acceptable. Unfortunately, the problems weren’t limited to my room. I was part of the wedding party and witnessed what I felt was unnecessarily difficult treatment of the bride, groom, and the groom’s 15-year-old son. The groom was staying on the adults-only side while his 15-year-old son was staying on the family side. The resort initially said his son couldn’t participate in the ceremony lineup because of his age and where he was staying. They eventually allowed him to participate, but then wouldn’t allow him to spend approximately 10 minutes in his father’s room to take professional wedding photographs with his father. They also wouldn’t allow him to wait in the lobby for approximately five minutes while I retrieved the rest of his suit from his father’s room so he could get dressed. Then, the following day, management—specifically Mr. Miller—called the police because the 15-year-old was swimming in an adult pool. The pool was located on the family side of the resort, and, from our experience, there was no clear indication that it was an adults-only pool. If a pool is restricted by age, the resort should make that restriction unmistakably clear. Calling the police over a 15-year-old in this situation seemed like an extreme and unnecessary escalation when the matter could have simply been handled by explaining the rule and asking him to leave the pool. This was supposed to be a beautiful destination wedding and a celebration for our friends and their families. Instead, there were repeated issues involving management, the accommodations, and basic customer service. I have stayed at many hotels and resorts, and I understand that things can occasionally go wrong. What matters is how management responds. In this case, I did not feel that the resort handled these situations with the level of professionalism, hospitality, or common sense I would expect from a major resort. My biggest concerns were the apparent cleanliness issues, the failure to replace the bedding after I specifically requested it, the mold/mildew, insects, bathroom flooding, filthy balcony, and the way the wedding party and the groom’s son were treated. If you’re considering Sonesta Sint Maarten for a vacation or destination wedding, I strongly recommend that you look closely at recent reviews and ask detailed questions about room conditions, pool restrictions, and the resort’s policies before booking. This was supposed to be a memorable celebration. Unfortunately, the resort itself became one of the biggest disappointments of the trip. 1 star from me.
