Management Made It Right — A Wonderful Ending After a Difficult Start
We stayed at Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus from August 29 to September 5, 2026. We had visited this resort five times before 2020, and this was our first return since then. Although our vacation began with a serious problem, the way management eventually responded completely changed our experience. For the first five days of our stay, the air conditioning did not work properly. We were moved to another room, but the same problem continued. The screen showed a programmed target temperature of 18°C, but it did not display the actual room temperature or allow guests to control the system independently. When I measured the temperature myself, it had reached 87°F (approximately 31°C), making it extremely uncomfortable and very difficult to sleep. After I posted my original review, the air conditioning was repaired that same day, and our room finally became comfortably cool. Manager on Duty John and General Manager Eduardo Balsa Santana personally apologized to us for what had happened and asked whether we had any other concerns that needed attention. Their response completely changed the final two days of our stay. Everyone can make a mistake, but what truly matters is how the situation is handled afterward. I was especially impressed by Manager on Duty John. It is obvious that he genuinely loves this resort and takes great pride in his work. Almost every day, we saw him in different areas of the property, carefully checking that everything was running properly—from the buffet service to the condition of the beautiful grounds. John made sure our problem was corrected, and our final two days felt like a dream. His professionalism, personal attention, and sincere concern for guests restored our confidence in the resort. It is clear that this hotel is in the hands of people who truly care and give 100% to their work. I also want to be completely honest about all the wonderful qualities of Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus. It is a truly beautiful resort. The grounds and landscaping are magnificent, the buffet food is fresh and delicious, and the ocean is spectacular. During our stay, there were no strong waves or seaweed, and there were plenty of umbrellas and shaded areas for everyone on the beach. The entertainment team creates a lively and joyful atmosphere. Aqua aerobics takes place in the ocean every day with energetic music. I would especially like to recognize the instructor who leads these sessions. He is absolutely fantastic—he motivates everyone and brings so much laughter, energy, and happiness to the guests. I would also like to thank the entire buffet staff, especially Katerin. It is such a pleasure to be served by attentive, intelligent, energetic, and professional employees. All of the servers provided excellent service, but Katerin truly stood out as the very best. The consistently high standard of service reflects the strong organization, leadership, and training of the hotel’s management team. Our initial air-conditioning problem was serious and affected most of our stay, but management listened, responded, and made everything right. We are sincerely grateful to Manager on Duty John, General Manager Eduardo Balsa Santana, and the entire team for giving our vacation such a wonderful ending. After seeing how professionally the situation was handled and enjoying everything this beautiful resort has to offer, we will definitely return and wholeheartedly recommend Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus to others.

Fantastic Hotel one of the best ( Poor check In)
Fantastic hotel with amazing food and drink great service and the most beautiful well kept grounds and facilities. Not the highest level of English speaking staff but understandable with not many English speaking guests. One final remark the most appalling check in Ever took 45mins after travelling all day with a total of 7 members of nearby staff standing around with no level of urgency to help the check in staff who also weren’t showing any urgency

Meeh
This hotel is beautiful, and the nature is unreal, the beach is perfect. The rooms were nice although lacking good air conditioning. We did ask for the air to be fixed and no one came. When the power went out in our rooms they did come and the air then worked slightly better. I am giving this place a 3 for those reasons. Other than that..:. Service , mostly bad, there were a couple workers that were great but mostly all were terrible. The pool bartenders at swim up bar and the lighthouse bartenders seemed annoyed to be making drinks. Sometimes they would just say no, no more? I maybe had/wanted 2 drinks a day and always an attitude was given. I also was the only one tipping so that can’t be the issue. If I did get a drink most were watery not frozen. Sounds like a non issue but when you pay the price we paid you would think you could get a good drink. Food….the breakfast was great, daily, as well as the waiters Angel and Algretcia. The lunch snack bar was good, those guys cook constantly. The lunch buffet was ok also. The dinners. Terrible. A lot of it was in edible, over cooked meat, raw meat. They tried but the flavors were just not good. Too heavy on the sauces, My husband got sick the first two nights and my one son got sick the last night and day. Sometimes at dinner I’d ask for a margarita and they would say no?! The star cafe and staff were amazing! My favorite spot. Thank god it was a gorgeous place, grounds immaculate otherwise we would not have enjoyed the trip at all. Staff was rude.

Wonderful family trip!
We recently returned from our family trip to the DR! We typically stay at adult only resorts and usually pay a lot more than the cost of this resort. The price is worth the value you get. Upon arrival we were welcomed by the staff, our rooms were not ready but we were given bracelets to enjoy the facilities until our rooms were ready. We never got a concierge, so not sure how they go about assigning those. The grounds are beautiful, tropical, bright colored buildings and beautiful peacocks/ducks walking around. The first room we were given had a musty odor and giving my fiancee a headache, so we were moved the next day. I must say the room (we had a pool room suite) was spacious and well located! The bed was super comfortable! The staff was for the most part very friendly and helpful. We encountered a couple that were not pleasant at all. One of the towel guys was rude and even asked my kids to go grab him chicken nuggets and fries before he would take the towels back. That is one thing they do run out of towels. We weee lucky enough to always get fresh ones. The beach is beautiful and totally makes it even more worth it. Beautiful white sand, calm clear blue waters! And no seaweed! Yeah! The servers at the buffet were awesome, especially Altagracia, had to give her a hug before I left. It was nice to see her friendly welcoming smile everyday at breakfast. The food is good. Most of the meals we had were good, service at some of the restaurants was not good at all especially our last night at the steakhouse. The steak was delicious but service horrible. It was a hit and miss at the restaurants. Make sure to make reservations early as they book up. Which doesn’t make sense because when we were at the restaurants very few tables were in use. The free hour of water activities, is not really free, they charge $20 for your time there. So get signed up as soon as you get there to take full advantage. Overall, I would say the resort is worth the money. It is very reasonably priced. The beach is beautiful!! Service most of the time was great and people were friendly!

Probably my last trip here
This was our 4th trip to this resort. It is beautiful and well maintained but a couple reasons below why it could be our last trip here to Iberostar resort in general. We had stayed at Iberostar resorts in Mexico and DR since 2012 and accumulated a lot of nights/points with our stays. On the last few trips we were getting automatic room upgrade because of that in addition to some other resort credits. Well, that all changed since Iberostar merged/became part of the IHG hotels. All that were offered is a late check out, no other perks. No reason for me continuing to be loyal to them. Beach bar is getting very crowded sometimes and another bar by the SPA area was always missing a bartender. One night they closed the beach bar at 17:30 for a “special event”, so that was very inconvenient to go to the pool bar and come back again. And lastly, the management need to think about improving the entertainment line up. 7 shows that we tried to watch were very boring and we left after 5 minutes. So, to summarize, I probably will try Dreams resort - the sea of the southern coast of DR is unbelievably awesome
