Wonderful vacation
I spent 9 days at the Bahia mid-August and enjoyed my stay! I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews here, but didn't experience any major issues. I am fairly well travelled having visited the Caribbean close to 40 times, and this was one of my best experiences. The hotel is in fantastic shape having just reopened in April after Hurricane Melissa. The Grand side is still closed until December. The attention to detail was impressive. Staff were constantly working on the buildings and grounds, even when I couldn't spot an issue. Check in was easy but my room wasn't ready until actual checkin time which meant a few hours of waiting. I did have access to the facilities though so passed the time having a cold drink and some lunch at the buffet. My room was large and clean. Housekeeping was excellent! The only issue I had with my room was the mini-fridge. It was broken and they had to come twice to get it working. I also had to call repeatedly throughout my stay to get it stocked. For location, I had garden view room. I could hear the main road traffic constantly when sitting on the enormous patio but this wasn't an issue for sleeping though as the AC provided great white noise. Hotel internal layout was a bit confusing when navigating the halls. My advice is to access everything from the pool side. Much easier (and faster) to find the main buffet and restaurants that way. Pools are large and clean with lots of loungers and were a perfect temperature. I especially enjoyed the pool closest to the restaurants. It was great for a quiet afternoon of resting, reading, and relaxing. The pool closest to the lobby has a swim-up bar and constant entertainment on the go so lots to choose from. Food was great! I had access to 3 a la cartes - Mediterrainian, Indian, and Brazilian. My favourite was the Indian but Med was a very close 2nd. A highlight of the Med and Indian a la cartes was their hostess, Tashana. She was absolutely delightful - kind, friendly, helpful. Every night there was either a show or a party. It was nice to have a Bob Marley tribute show. And the circus show was amazing! Beach party and pool party were fun as well. There are lots of bars with excellent drinks to try. The "Bob Marley" was my favourite. And my favourite bar was the beach bar. Excellent service here, especially by Dante who usually provided service right on the beach! The beach was okay, but not as nice as the Cuban beaches. The main beach was in 3 short sections and was more of a lagoon than a beach. It was very rocky and kelpy and only got about waist deep. It was fine to cool off in, but not great for walking or swimming. There were always clean loungers available. There were people along the shore selling things ranging from jewelry to braids to weed. A polite "no thanks" was enough for them to move on. I especially enjoyed Smokey. He had great Jamaican vibes and a great sense of humour. There was also a security guard keeping an eye on things which was nice. There was a slightly longer beach towards the Grand side where you could do water sports. I booked a snorkel excursion one day - $50USDpp with a minimum of 3 people. All in all, I had an amazing stay at the Bahia. I returned home feeling rested and recharged. Thank you!

This resort needs some training.
Mediocre stay. On the Hyatt App, there is a list of dining options, but beware that several of the restaurants listed are on the sister hotel property that is currently under renovation and those restaurants are closed. We had a few housekeeping and maintenance issues with our room and it took 2 full days and many calls and trips to the front desk to get them resolved. In the end, my husband had to show the maintenance working how to fix the issue. We complained at the front desk and they didn't seem to care. There 2 designated areas on the hotel property for smoking/vaping, but we experienced smoking of all kinds even in the pool. As non-smokers, that was very irrigating. The food was good at the restaurants that were open and the service was good in those areas. The website talks about several pools but it is basically one with blocked bridges going over. We will not return.
