Aug 31, 2026A bit disappointed
I heard so many good things about this hotel that my expectations were great. Honestly, one of the worst room I had and I am not a luxury person at all. The AC did not cool the room at ALL. It was the same temperature as outside and mind you, it was about 35 degrees outside. They came and fixed it, but then the ceiling was leaking and about to explode. We wanted to call to inform the front desk but the phone did not work. Once they fixed our room, the AC would not work anymore. We noticed them but they didn’t do anything about it. We were trying to have a vacation, not fixing problems so we ended giving up asking. The beach was great, the food ok but not enough chairs by the beach. Location was great and the animation, drinks were good. I’ll probably go back to las terrenas its amazing but just not at this hotel.

Aug 22, 2026A Disappointing Decline in Service and Accommodations - We Will Not Be Returning
This was our third stay with Bahia Principe, having previously visited their resorts in the Dominican Republic and Mexico. Unfortunately, our experience this time at Bahia Principe El Portillo in Samaná was extremely disappointing. The decline in both service and accommodations was noticeable. With the resort now associated with Hyatt, we expected improvements. Instead, our experience felt like a significant regression. From the moment we arrived, the condition of our room was unacceptable. We were welcomed by several cockroaches, and the room had a strong, unpleasant smell of humidity and dampness. The air conditioning was not working properly, which made the room extremely humid and uncomfortable. We believe these conditions contributed to two members of our family becoming sick during the stay. The rooms themselves were dated and clearly in need of maintenance and renovation. It took four different technicians coming to our room before we finally received what I can only describe as a partial fix to the air conditioning problem. What disappointed me even more was the response from management. I was specifically promised that management would follow up with me regarding the situation, but no one ever did. There was no meaningful attempt to recover the experience - no compensation, no upgrade, no added value, and seemingly no concern about whether we were satisfied with how the situation had been handled. This is far below the level of customer service I would expect from a resort of this size and reputation, particularly when guests are dealing with issues involving cleanliness, insects, malfunctioning air conditioning, and unacceptable room conditions. What made the experience particularly embarrassing was that we had personally recommended this resort to family and friends and travelled together as a group of 16 people. Throughout the trip, we were repeatedly reminded by members of our group how badly that recommendation had turned out. After three experiences with Bahia Principe, I certainly did not expect to leave feeling this disappointed. If you are looking for modern accommodations, properly maintained rooms, responsive management, and a strong level of customer service, I cannot recommend Bahia Principe El Portillo based on our experience. Unfortunately, after this experience, we will not be returning.

Awesome resort ! I recommend 100%
Hi everyone ! First time in Samaná and at the Bahia principe Explore El portillo, we were there from 8 to the 15 August for our Honeymoon 🫶. I have to say we had an amazing time, great resort ! A big thank you to Jimmy at the front desk he was always on the ball when we needed something or information always with helping us with a smile what a great guy ! In overall everyone works very hard to keep us happy so we have the best time during our stay, entertainment crew wow full of energy, the buffet 👌and the restaurant a la carte were delicious and great service, we ate at the French, Italian and Brazilian. Have never seen so many types of fish's while snorkeling right to the left of the hotel it was like being in a life-size aquarium 🫶🙂. The beach was amazing very clean no seaweed at all, beautiful walks on the beach. We will be back !! Thank you for making our Honeymoon so amazing and memorable El Portillo 🫶
