Horrible hotel and we are Barcelo members, were treated horribly by staff especially Gabriella at the buffet, food is horrible such low quality food and very limited choices, had to take cold shower and shower without pressure, Don't go here.. The Barcelo in Maya riveria is amazing especially the adults only but all of them in that chain are great, we've stayed in all of them.

Alfredo was an exceptional waiter ar Fontana Italian restaurant. truly made our experience at Barceló Ixtapa unforgettable. He was warm, attentive, professional, and always greeted us with a genuine smile. He anticipated our needs, made excellent recommendations, and ensured every meal was enjoyable from start to finish. His outstanding customer service and positive attitude made us feel welcomed and valued. Thank you, Alfredo, for going above and beyond—we look forward to seeing you again on our next visit! Highly recommended!

Wonderful welcome experience at Fontana at ixtapa Barcelo
The Italian restaurant was absolutely delicious our server Alfonso was amazing super attentive and was so amazing a friendly, I highly recommend!!!

We had a great family vaction in Zihuatanejo Mexico. Barcelo was nice but could you use some remodeling in rooms, The food is good at the buffets and service was good too. You may want to ask questions with either concierge or front desk regarding events and restaurants as they do not offer up any info, Also check your rooms before taking up luggage we had to change our rooms twice.

Apr 19, 2026Barcelo Ixtapa - Definitely not a 5 star, at best a 3 star
We had been to this resort 3 times previously, the last being 8 years ago. This resort has definitely deteriorated in almost all aspects since that time. We were at the Barcelo Ixtapa for 14 days. Food quality and food serving temperatures were extremely variable from day to day. Generally hot foods were rarely served hot and were either lukewarm or cold, with a few exceptions. There were many issues with lack of cleanliness. Beach loungers were never washed or cleaned over the 2 week period. A lot of bird droppings on the outside chairs near the lounge bar. Elevators were dirty and smelly and also there were some maintenance issues with the elevators. Bar drinks, especially at the lobby bar were watered down as has been reported by others at this resort. On a positive note, the location of this resort and the beach at this resort are excellent. However the resort appears to be poorly managed and they appear to be on a cost cutting path. which affects food and service quality. Staff are very friendly. However this is an old resort with small rooms and tiny bathrooms and it needs a total renovation/refresh. We won't be back.
