Not a great All Inclusive property
The same breakfast and lunch snacks were served each day, very little variety. One of the two a-la-carte restaurants was closed the entire week for dinner (Oceana) and the times listed online for events and restaurants did not align with the schedule on property. I enjoyed their Portofino restaurant and the rooms are nice. All drinks or liquor is not included in this "all inclusive" property and the attendant in the Preferred lounge (Yirley) was not pleasant and made horrible cocktails. The pools (even the adult pool) closes at 6pm, before the sun sets.

Dreams @ Cartagena
After reading the reviews about DREAMS, I was so not looking forward to arriving. In all fairness, it is a lovely resort that can use some upgrades in the pool & beach areas .... but still nice nonetheless. If you are looking for a loud, party resort with plenty to do and a lot of action, you will be very disappointed. So, I don't recommend it for the 20's, 30's or early 40's group. The vibe is more chill and relaxed. There's not an awful lot to do in terms of classes, beach party, pool party, daytime activities, and guest involvement so if you don't plan a few day trips (expensive!), you'll be bored. They offer a free shuttle to the walled city which is a definite plus plus and saves you cab fare. If you don't like to be haggled, stay away from the walled city. there's a special energy there - I'll reserve comment. DREAMS also has their own car service which is another plus. The resort beach is not the cleanest and the water is murky, but the water is warm like bathwater!! Lots of black crows that will snatch your food, lol. If you can get past all of this and just relax with a drink, you'll be fine. I LOVED walking from the resort to the beach on the quiet trail. There is a convenient beach shuttle but the walk is only 15 minutes and shorter than it seems. We were in the preferred club and had a really nice room (638) with one bedroom. nothing over the top (l usually book high end suites) but spacious and clean with TWO full bathrooms!... The balcony off the living room needs cushions on the chairs, please! Room service food is absolutely wonderful!! so I found myself ordering dinner a few times. as far as improvements.... the frozen drinks/cocktails are not very tasty. I stuck with Mojitos and the bar at the preferred club pool section makes them the best. everywhere else is hit or miss. the final comment is that the staff absolutely must SMILE a lot more and give the impression that they enjoy their jobs. I know it's extremely hot but many of the workers simply look unhappy and so you think twice about saying a friendly hello. ELVIS is the absolute exception, and he went out of his way to Smile, laugh & welcome my hubby and me and even spoke some English! Also the beautiful young lady who checked us in at Oceana - she resembles Zoe Zaldana and was so warm & pleasant---- I am used to the staff energy at the resorts in DR where everything is "EXCELLENTE!! If 80% of the staff at DREAMS did this, it might make the guests feel more welcome & relaxed. Remember, your help can kill your business! Guests want to know that they matter. Kindness is necessary in all cultures and ethnicities. My husband says he will come back to Dreams (he golfs too) but as for me.... I'm not too sure.... .PS/ advertise the fact that you have bikes for adults and children onsite (by the fitness center). The Palenko tour was costly but so worth it.
