Maybe all inclusives are not for me
I don't know how these places get such good reviews. I think a lot of people go to all inclusives for the drinks and food, both of which were, in my opinion, pretty spotty. It's hard to get a drink at the bar, party members would say I'm getting drinks and leave and come back like 30 minutes later, and wed all home what happened!? Every meal had at least something wrong with it. Order a panini, you get two hard pieces of bread with a loose piece of grilled chicken. Order a margherita pizza, you get a cheese pizza with no basil. Cuts of meat didn't match the names provided at the steakhouse. Order breakfast through the app, more than once half of it often didn't show up. You also can't order coffee through room service. I ordered a sprite for my daughter four times before it showed up. I killed some kind of bug coming at us on top of the habachi table, which turned me off to the whole thing. After killing it the staff just left it there. TV was broken in our room for awhile, one of our parties rooms smelled pretty damp, and the AC unit would give out a loud bang when it stopped. Our room was ok though, with regards to the ac. Would I ever go back? No. One good thing, the beach was nice when it wasent covered in sea weed.

Terrible, dont stay here
If I could give this resort zero stars, I would. I do a lot of research before any vacation, especially when it comes to where we are staying. I read numerous reviews and watched several videos before deciding to book this resort. We had previously stayed at Iberostar Selection Coral Cancun in December and had an amazing experience, so we expected a similar 5-star experience in Punta Cana. Unfortunately, that was absolutely not the case. My fiancé and I had our room upgraded due to his IHG status, and unfortunately, our experience started immediately upon entering our first room. There were approximately eight cockroaches in the room. These were not the occasional outdoor bugs you might expect in a warm, tropical environment. This appeared to be an infestation, and I did not feel comfortable staying in a room with that many cockroaches. The room also smelled extremely musty, and the bed sheets had noticeable stains on them. We contacted the front desk, and someone was sent to spray the room. However, rather than addressing the situation appropriately, we were essentially told that these bugs were “normal for this environment.” I completely understand that bugs can occasionally make their way into buildings in a tropical climate. What is not acceptable at a resort advertising itself as a 5-star property is having multiple cockroaches in a guest room and treating the issue as though it is simply something guests should accept. We requested a different room, and they did move us. The second room initially appeared better, although I believe it had been quickly swept or cleaned before we arrived because there were signs that dead bugs had recently been removed. Unfortunately, we later found another live cockroach in the bathroom. Once again, we contacted the front desk and were told someone would come spray the room. No one ever came. The second room was also not particularly clean. There was mold around the bathroom sink, and the shower glass looked dirty and poorly maintained. At least this room did not have the musty smell, and we were moved to a higher floor, which was an improvement. By this point, my fiancé and I were exhausted. We had been traveling all day, had already been forced to switch rooms, and simply wanted to relax and start enjoying our vacation. Unfortunately, the food was another major disappointment. For a resort that advertises itself as 5-star, I expected the food to at least be edible. Much of what we tried was either bland, poorly prepared, or simply unappetizing. There were also flies flying around the food in the buffet, which was extremely concerning and made us uncomfortable eating there. We had Prestige club level lounge access, but unfortunately, the food and overall experience there were not noticeably better than the rest of the resort. In our opinion, the additional access was not worth it. At one point, we even asked an employee whether they would eat the food, and they laughed and shook their head no. While we understand that was likely meant as a joke, hearing an employee say they would not eat the food themselves certainly did not inspire confidence. There were also cockroaches in the food menus, which only added to our concerns about cleanliness. There were some positives. The pools themselves were nice, although some appeared to need more frequent cleaning, as there was often debris floating in them. The hibachi restaurant was excellent and was probably the best meal we had during our stay. The Dressel Divers employees were incredibly kind and helpful, and the golf cart transportation drivers throughout the resort were also consistently friendly. I will also give the resort credit for doing a great job cleaning up the sargassum from the beach. Unfortunately, we also had an extremely unpleasant interaction with a woman who I believe was a manager. After spending a day at the pool and having a few drinks, my fiancé and I accidentally entered a room that was under construction because we genuinely believed it was our room. Our room was 3938, while the room we accidentally entered was 3928 — a very easy mistake to make, especially since it was only our second day at the resort and we had both had a few drinks. We immediately acknowledged our mistake and went to our actual room. However, the woman, who I assume was a manager based on her attire and position, continued yelling at us and arguing with us even after we had acknowledged the mistake and were leaving. My fiancé asked her what her role was at the resort, and she simply responded, “I work here.” Regardless of her exact position, the way she handled the situation was extremely unprofessional. There was absolutely no reason for the interaction to escalate the way it did, especially after we acknowledged the mistake and left the room. Her attitude toward us was completely inappropriate for someone representing a supposedly 5-star resort. We genuinely tried to make the best of our vacation despite all of these issues. The manager at the Coral reception did make an effort to help us and try to make things right, and I appreciate that. Unfortunately, at that point, there was only so much he could do to change our overall experience. At the end of our stay, I expressed my concerns and frustrations to multiple members of the resort staff. What was particularly disappointing was being told that they would rather we express our concerns directly to them than leave a negative review. While I understand wanting guests to communicate issues so the resort has an opportunity to resolve them, that conversation left me with the impression that protecting the resort's public image was more important than addressing the underlying problems. After our experience, I have a very difficult time understanding how this resort maintains a 5-star rating. This was not a 5-star experience. Iberostar Selection Coral Cancun gave us a wonderful experience, which is why we had high expectations for this property. Unfortunately, Iberostar Selection Coral Punta Cana did not come close to meeting those expectations. Between the cockroaches in multiple rooms, cleanliness issues, flies around the food, poor food quality, lack of follow-through from staff, and the unprofessional interaction with management, there were simply too many issues to overlook. I would not return to this resort, and I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a true 5-star experience.

Excellent resort unless you have young kids
We stayed at the Coral and for the most part it was excellent. The food, service, pools and beach area were far superior to the other levels. We really liked that the area was quiet, uncrowded, and very clean. The entertainment was very poor so we chose to do our own things. We really struggled on the days that it rained because there was no place to really go and there was nothing to do. (We stayed at the room and read a book. Fine for an adult but not with kids). It really got a bit boring. If you have young kids there isn't much for them to do. They do have an excellent splash area that the kids loved and the pools were nice to spend time in but it doesn't go beyond that. The entertainment and activities for the kids was seriously lacking and poor quality. They said they could use the Star camp but we were looking for areas where we as a family could do things together and not just drop the kids off for "babysitting". Having a large outdoor playground (not associated with the water) would make the resort kid friendly. A place where the kids could climb, swing, and slide would be fantastic!!!! A playground would give the kids a place to go where they could play and get energy out for days. For us, I found that NOT having a FAMILY PLAYGROUND WAS A MAJOR DOWNFALL of the resort, if you have kids. I would definitely go back to vacation there but would consider another resort if you had young kids.
