Lovely place highly recommend
Arrived to a cold hand towel and taken to the club area to check in, were we had a glass of wine while waiting. On first impressions the hotel looked classy. We were introduced to our butler, whom showed us around with another family and then to our room. Room. We booked a club suite. The room was large. However, upon trying to close the balcony door we realised it did not lock, so we tried to call reception, but the telephone was not working. We messaged the bulter, whom had the door fixed that evening and the phone the next day. The rooms are large with a large balcony. We had a garden view, which was more private. The bed is super comfortable. Yes, the bathroom is open concept, the doors are frosted though and this was not an issue at all for us. All shampoo, conditioner, body wash etc is provided. The rooms are not sound treated and you can hear people outside, but this was not an issue. The AC is great. The curtains are blackouts. The club longue is a nice touch. It has snacks until about 9.30pm, when they start packing away (not 10pm as advertised). Okay, the food... so I don't eat meat (my husband does). The French restaurant had zero vegetarian mains just meat or fish. Others do, but are vegetable tacos/burritos or vegetable skewers. The japenese didnt even ask, I had to just politely decline the beef, chicken and shrimp mains. However, the fried rice was delicious, as was the vegetable sushi. The buffet is best for choice, including vegetarian. The cocktails are great. The wine is also very drinkable. I realised on our second to last night they will make you any cocktail, not just the ones on the menu, so I had a few ameretto sours. There were always beds at the pool. The Bali beds on the beach were being reserved with towels from early on. I went down at 7.30am one day and the front beds had towels on, still noone there by 9.30am. There are signs to say if left vacant for 1 hour the towels will be removed, but in reality this is not actioned. The pools are very well cared for and the temperature, although cold, is perfect in the heat. The foam party was fun! Juan at the swim up club was excellent at cocktails and Nickfry was excellent at the buffet, he would make sure our glasses were always full and needs met. Yes, some areas are a little worn. The little things that didn't impact our holiday at all but would have made it 5 stars...ties with your robe (also heard another couple asking), check the room beforehand, house keeping arriving timely (one day was close to 5pm and we were back showering etc so had to decline), not forgetting to ask what drink we wanted when the restaurants or buffet were busy, more vegetarian options in the restaurants, improved shower pressure. I wouldn't hesitate on returning and would recommend this hotel. We had a great holiday!

Unacceptable customer service.
When initally making the reservation for my family, we booked it at the Majestic Colonial, we booked a 5 night stay with them as returning customers. Prior to arriving to the resort, we were notified that the resort would be under construction and we would be moved to their sister resort next door and have the same accommodations where we were traveling with our teenage daughter, which was ok. Upon arrival, they had overbooked the resort and we were placed in a different room that was not what we were promised. After going back and forth with the front desk staff and very rude managers, we were told that we would get the room we initially booked with a refund to our inital form of payment for the two days that we were in a less expensive room. It has been over a month without any response nor resolve from this issue. I have emailed their customer service as well as have attempted to call the resort directly for some sort of update on this issue. The resort staff told me, "keep emailing, and be patient". I have sent multiple emails to their customer service with the latest email being sent 4 days ago with NO response. I recommend if you stay at this resort get your refund PRIOR to checking out, due to their in ability to respond to their customers in a timely manner.

Majestic Colonial - Adults Only side
Sorry for the late review. Maybe it will help with planning for when Majestic Colonial re-opens after renovations (couldn't find the completion date). Travelled in November, right after hurricane season ends. The need for renovations was starting to show - in the pools and our bathroom - but otherwise a fantastic resort, with helpful and friendly staff. Our concierge Marcelo was attentive and great at making recommendations for meals or activities. The beach restaurant was the highlight - breakfast and lunch buffets served, then a la carte for supper. The main buffet was better for selection, but the seafood and steak options were great at the beach restaurant. Service was friendly and efficient. Though not a lot of more casual food options. The upgrade to the Adults-only side and concierge service was definitely worth the cost. Pluses included a stocked room fridge and a couple of hard liquor bottles in the room. Almost all the bars had top shelf liquor - it wasn't hard to find if the pool bars didn't have what you wanted. We would probably upgrade to Majestic Elegance or Mirage, mainly for the increase in restaurant options.

Our favorite resort
This was our second visit to Colonial and it is hands down our favorite resort. The beach is beautiful and well maintained. Food is decent and always available. Service is always top notch! We had Alex as our butler for our stay and she was INCREDIBLE!! I really hope she will be back when they reopen from renovations. She went above and beyond for us and made sure to check in with us every single day and was super responsive to messages. Alex made our stay even more enjoyable. Alejandro was also a rockstar! He provided us with great service and really went out of his way to make our dining experience special. We will be back next year and hope that both of them will also be there!
