    Great family holiday

Had a great time here as a family of four. It was the start of rainy season when we arrived but we didn’t let that ruin our holiday! We travelled with my 10 year niece and 16 year old nephew who loved the hotel. We spent a few evenings across the road at Riu Tequila where the entertainment was excellent. The sea was quite rough when we stayed so spent most of our time at the pools. Rooms were a little tired however I understand the hotel is now being refurbished. Good choice of food. The steak restaurant was immense and even catered to our fussy 12 year by serving plain pasta and potato wedges when we visited. Wouldn’t rush back, but that’s only because we preciously stayed at the Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun and preferred it there.

Families with children discriminated by RIU

For more than 20 years, RIU Palace Mexico has been our family's favorite vacation destination. Our daughter, who is now 14 years old, practically grew up at this resort. We have celebrated countless family vacations here and always felt welcomed. I understand that RIU Palace Mexico has decided to become an adults-only resort starting in September 2026. While I respect that this is a business decision, I cannot understand the policy at the neighboring RIU Palace Riviera Maya in Playacar. Guests traveling with children cannot book the Jacuzzi rooms because they are reserved exclusively for Elite Club members, which is adults only. This means that parents are denied access to a room category not because of their loyalty, their willingness to pay, or their behavior, but simply because they have children. That feels like discrimination against families. Families are paying customers too, yet they are being offered fewer choices solely because they are traveling with children. The policy assumes that every guest under 18 is a disruption, regardless of their age or behavior. There is a huge difference between a toddler and a respectful, mature teenager. Our 14-year-old daughter has been coming to RIU for most of her life. She is polite, considerate, and often demonstrates better manners than some adults we have encountered at the resort. Yet she is grouped into the same category as every child, with no consideration for individual circumstances. The most heartbreaking part is having to explain to her that after growing up at RIU and making so many wonderful memories here, she is suddenly "not the right kind of guest." Imagine telling a teenager who has spent nearly every family vacation at the same hotel that she is no longer welcome to stay where she has always felt at home—not because of anything she has done, but simply because she has not yet turned 18. Parents should not lose vacation choices because they chose to have a family. Loyalty built over decades should count for something. Instead, long-time guests are being pushed aside while entire room categories are made unavailable to them. We have recommended RIU to countless friends and family over the past two decades because we believed it was a brand that welcomed everyone. Unfortunately, this policy sends the opposite message. It tells families that their business is less valuable than that of adults traveling without children. After more than 20 years of loyalty, this is incredibly disappointing. I sincerely hope RIU will reconsider this policy and recognize that families with respectful children deserve the same opportunity to enjoy the full resort experience as everyone else.

Great Time At Riu Palace Mexico

My son and I had a great time here. All the staff were great, and everyone seemed as happy as we were. The rooms were good and clean. The only issue is that we left on the 30th of April, and they were closing for a big reno on May 3. On the last 2 nights, only the buffet and one restaurant were open. If we had been told this at the beginning, we could have planned our meals better. They gave us a pass to go to another Riu for dinner, so that made up for it a bit. Minimal noise other than the fact that they started the demolition for the renovation. Overall, the food, drinks, and staff were great. We will likely be back next year after the reno. Shout out to German in the swim-up bar. We had a blast with him. Umbrellas or some kind of shade would have been amazing in the swim-up bar. After a long winter in northern Canada, the sun can be a lot.

    Very good resort

Overall this is a very good resort. Check-in was easy Friendly and great service Grounds are well kept We had an issue with the AC, they sent someone to fix it, but it didn’t work, they gave us a different room and followed up to make sure everything was ok. We were lucky, the beach was beautiful and they make sure to clean it. There are no umbrellas or palappas on the beach, finding shade was sometimes a bit hard, same with the pools, shade was limited unless you get up at 6 and put your towels. Food : buffet was delicious and warm. We only tried 2 a la carte, Japanese was soso, steakhouse was GOOD Rooms : good for couples, not good for 3 ladies as it has two double beds and a sofa bed with a wooded bar in the middle. We are hoping that when it gets renovated and converted to an adults only they will review their bedding.
