⭐ 1/5 — ROYALTON ANTIGUA: PLEASE READ BEFORE SPENDING YOUR MONEY
If you are currently scrolling through resorts trying to plan an amazing Antigua vacation, especially a family vacation, PLEASE read this entire review before you spend your money. I traveled with my mother and my 9-year-old daughter, so this was a three-generation family trip. We expected beautiful accommodations, great food, clean facilities, relaxation, and the type of experience you expect when you’re paying for an all-inclusive Caribbean resort. Based on what my family personally experienced, I would tell someone considering this resort: DON’T YOU DARE SPEND YOUR money here without knowing what you could be walking into. This wasn’t about one rude employee, one bad meal, or me being picky. My child was physically injured. I was injured. The pool had damaged/missing tiles. Our room had cleanliness and maintenance issues. The food was disappointing. There were stray animals throughout the property. Let me break our experience down. 🚨 THE POOL — THIS IS THE BIGGEST REASON I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS RESORT My 9-year-old daughter was CUT while swimming in the pool. Afterward, we looked more closely and could see chipped and missing tiles in areas of the pool. And then I was cut too. I sustained cuts/scratches to my leg and knee after using the same pool. I took photographs of my daughter’s injury, my injuries, and the condition of the pool. Think about that for a second. You save your money, book an international family vacation, bring your child to what is marketed as a beautiful resort, put her bathing suit on, take her to the pool—and now you’re dealing with your 9-year-old being cut while swimming. A parent should NOT have to inspect the bottom and sides of a resort swimming pool for sharp or damaged tiles before allowing their child to get in. For me, this alone is enough to say DO NOT BOOK until these conditions are properly addressed. 🏚️ THE ROOM — NOT WHAT I EXPECTED FOR THE MONEY Then we have the room. Look at the pictures I’m attaching to this review. We documented staining, discoloration, deterioration, worn furniture, questionable bathroom/shower conditions, buildup and deterioration around the vanity, marks on surfaces, and other areas that simply looked tired and poorly maintained. There’s a difference between a resort being older and a resort looking like things haven’t been properly maintained. When I pay for a resort vacation, I don’t expect perfection. But I DO expect clean, sanitary and properly maintained accommodations. Especially when my child is sleeping there. 🍽️ THE FOOD — A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT If you’re a foodie and food is a major part of your vacation, pay attention to this part. We love food. One of the reasons we choose an all-inclusive is because dining is part of the experience we’re paying for. The food here was extremely disappointing to us. The quality, preparation, variety and presentation we personally experienced were simply not what I expected from a resort marketed at this level. I’ve included a photograph of one of the meals because sometimes a picture explains something better than a paragraph ever could. If great food is one of the things that makes a vacation amazing for you, I would seriously take that into consideration before booking. 🐕 STRAY DOGS & CATS — YES, EVEN AROUND THE ROOMS AND RESTAURANTS This is something else I wish I had known before coming. During our stay, we encountered numerous free-roaming/stray dogs around the property. At times, dogs could be in front of the hotel-room areas or lying near the restaurants. And at night, we could hear cats fighting. I understand that free-roaming animals exist throughout many Caribbean destinations. My issue is experiencing them within the guest areas of a resort, including near accommodations and dining areas. Some people love animals and this may not bother them. Other travelers have allergies, fears of dogs, young children, or simply don’t expect animals lying near restaurant areas at a resort they’ve paid significant money to visit. You deserve to know before you book. 🧹 CLEANLINESS & MAINTENANCE — THE PICTURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES There were too many things for me to dismiss everything as an isolated maintenance problem. The shower. The vanity. The furniture. The room surfaces. The refrigerator/minibar area. The pool. The missing/damaged tiles. When you start putting everything together, it changes the entire impression of the property. I’m not expecting someone to follow me around polishing the floor every five minutes. I’m expecting basic resort maintenance and cleanliness consistent with what guests are paying for. 👧🏾 IF YOU ARE TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN, THIS IS WHAT I NEED YOU TO UNDERSTAND My daughter is 9 years old. That’s why I’m being so vocal about this. If this had only been mediocre food and an outdated room, I probably would have finished my vacation, gone home and written a disappointing review. But my CHILD was physically cut in the swimming pool. Then I experienced cuts/scratches associated with that same pool. Once safety becomes part of the conversation, my review changes completely. Parents research resorts because we are trusting these properties with something more important than our vacation money. We’re trusting them with our children. 💰 IS IT WORTH YOUR MONEY? FOR US — ABSOLUTELY NOT. This is ultimately what people reading reviews want to know. Would I spend my money on Royalton Antigua again based on this experience? NO. Would I bring my daughter back? Absolutely not. Would I recommend it to someone looking for an amazing Caribbean vacation? No. Would I recommend it to a foodie? No. Would I recommend another parent book without thoroughly researching the property’s CURRENT condition? Absolutely not. And that’s why I’m writing such a detailed review. 📸 I HAVE RECEIPTS — PHOTOGRAPHS I documented what I’m describing. I have photographs showing my daughter’s injury, my injuries, damaged/missing pool tiles, pool conditions, bathroom/shower conditions, deterioration around the vanity, worn/stained furniture, room conditions, and food we were served. I’m not asking anyone reading this to simply take my word for it. LOOK AT THE PHOTOS. Then compare those photographs with the beautiful professional pictures you’re looking at while deciding whether to book. ⚠️ BEFORE YOU HIT “BOOK NOW”… Antigua can be a beautiful destination. Your vacation time is valuable. Your money is valuable. And if you’re traveling with your children, their safety is priceless. My issue isn’t with Antigua. My review is specifically about the resort experience my family received during this stay. We came here expecting to make beautiful memories with my mother, myself and my daughter. Instead, I found myself photographing my child’s injury, photographing my own injuries, documenting broken pool tiles, photographing room conditions, worrying about safety, being disappointed by food, and documenting issues around a vacation I should have been enjoying. That is NOT what I paid for. So if you’re sitting at home right now with Royalton Antigua open in another browser tab thinking: “This looks amazing. Should I book it?” Based on OUR experience? DON’T YOU DARE HIT THAT BOOK BUTTON WITHOUT DOING YOUR RESEARCH. Read the newest reviews. Look at actual traveler photographs. Zoom in. Ask questions. And if you’re bringing children, please pay particular attention to reviews discussing the pools and maintenance. I can’t tell another traveler what decision to make. But I can tell you this: If I knew before booking what I know after staying here, I would have spent my money somewhere else. ⭐ 1/5 based on our experience. I WOULD NOT RETURN. I WOULD NOT BRING MY CHILD BACK. AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY TO MY family or friends based on the conditions and experience we encountered.

Diamond club experience - thank you Beverly
I would like to leave this review for the diamond club experience only and will review the hotel facilities separately. This is our third visit to Royalton Antigua and second diamond club experience here. We have also stayed diamond club in St Lucia. This has been our best diamond club experience to date I think that they have listened to feedback from unhappy guests and tried to fix this. Check in was very smooth and we were quickly escorted to our room by Beverly who was the main butler for the week. We said we had stayed before but she still took the time to explain everything and check we were comfortable. For the first time we actually received the beach bag and room spray previously these have been out of stock and no alternatives offered. We asked about the alcohol and were sent a list of options on WhatsApp and told it would take a couple of days to arrive. We were told that restaurants had been booked for the next 2 days but we were able to change the time easily. Everyone we meet in the diamond area was helpful and seemed happy to be at work we have previously experienced bored / disinterested staff. Our butlers for the week were Marcus and Beverly. Interactions with Marcus was limited as he was on leave most the week but the couple of things he helped with the service was prompt. Beverly is a great asset to the hotel everything was booked before we had to asked and she was the right level of attentive without being overbearing. She was really helpful when my son had an upset stomach and made him a mint and bitters drink which helped. She made the effort to see us in person every day (which was difficult some days as we spent a lot of time off the resort). She gave a nice note and some strawberries on her last evening before going off on holiday which was a nice touch. Having a good butler who genuinely seems to care that you are having a good holiday and that you would want to return to the hotel makes your stay at least 50% better. It was refreshing to see that most of the butlers are 40 plus as the more experienced staff care about customer service and not just trying to get tips from you. If you have a training program for butlers across you resorts then Beverly would be a great person to train others. She is one of the staff that is a massive asset to Royalton Antigua and the reason we hope to return to the hotel next year for diamond club and hopefully see Beverly again.

Quality time in a quality environment
Royalton Antigua was wonderful. While I can see that they could improve, I will still give it an excellent review because for the most part, the staff was attentive and we were able to enjoy our stay. The room was pretty good. A little smaller than expected but it worked for our family. The room service could have been better but they were working with what they had and I appreciated the effort of the staff. The Grand Marche buffet was fantastic. With this being a family trip with a 2 year old and 9 year old, we definitely couldn't be bothered with trying to get reservations although I am told the steakhouse was great. The pool was great and I loved the swim up bar. Water aerobics was great as well. The beach was breathtaking. The gym had everything I needed and the spa was great. We also did an excursion which was arranged by the hotel. It was a bit of a bumpy ride but we definitely got to see the island. Our Marriot Bonvoy attendant Vanessa was fantastic, she helped arrange for the excursion as well as for us to rent a car which we used to explore the island on our own. All in all I had a very good experience. I didn't give a full 5 stars because there could be some improvement however I cannot complain about my time. I am relaxed and rejuvenated and that's what I came for.

Honeymoon Trip
We stayed in the bungalows for our honeymoon and had the best experience! Earl was our butler for the weekend and he ensured the entire stay was so enjoyable and relaxing!
